Our Peaky Blinders special on the 13th November featured a couple of PJ Harvey tracks. From her second album ‘Rid of Me’, released in 1993, we played ‘Man Size’. It was recorded at the time by Steve Albini, giving it a minimal, raw sound that still sounds extremely fresh. The second PJ Harvey track we played was ‘Broken Harp’, from her seventh studio album ‘White Chalk’, released in 2007. The album is quieter, and much starker. I like the use of different instruments on the album: pianos, banjos, harp, and various keyboard instruments; some played by former Magic Band (i.e. Captain Beefheart) member Eric Drew Feldman.
