Track of the week, played on the show last week, has to be Fela Kuti & Africa ’70’s ‘Water No Get Enemy’, recorded in 1975. Nigerian born Fela Kuti was a key figure in the development of Afro-beat: a fusion of Jazz and Highlife. Clocking in at eleven minutes, it’s certainly the longest track we’ve played on the show to date. I love how the vocals/lyrics kick in at about the five and a half minute mark, and when they do they are intriguing. There was often a political message running through his songs, but the infectious saxophone, keyboards and drums give this track a summery laid back vibe. One of my all time favourites!
